DESGRI

Defence Economics and Geoeconomics Research Initiative

KRAKOW UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS
DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS

Researching the economic foundations of security in an era of geopolitical competition.

DESGRI advances interdisciplinary academic and policy-oriented research on defence economics, economic security and geoeconomics.

Understanding Security Through Economics

The international security environment is increasingly shaped not only by military capabilities, but also by fiscal capacity, industrial production, technology, strategic resources, investment flows and financial resilience. DESGRI brings these dimensions together in one research platform.

NATO STO SAS-220 | 2026–2029

DESGRI researchers, together with a team from the Department of International Economics at Krakow University of Economics, have joined NATO STO SAS-220, a three-year Research Task Group examining gaps and synergies in NATO’s broader Defence and Technological Industrial Base. Dr Joseph Abodakpi leads Syndicate 2 – Acquisition and Lifecycle Sustainment, including work on Strategic Minerals and Rare Earth Elements.
